FHAM Mail Issue 1 |
 |
| “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts” (Isaiah 55:9). |
Dear Friends, We would like you all to join with us in giving thanks to God for His goodness, His unfailing love, His wonderful deeds for men; how He satisfies the thirsty and fills the hungry with good things. (see Psalms 107). Many thanks for all your support. Please continue to remember us in prayer, that God would continue to guide and direct the trustees of FHAM and the directors, co-ordinators and workers of HfA in their service for Him. It is our desire and I am sure that it is also yours, that God’s name is glorified in all that we do and all that is done by HfA in South Africa, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Malawi, Lesotho and Swaziland.
We would like to update you with news of what has happened and what is happening and enclose copies of our leaflets about FHAM and HfA, which I hope will give you a better sense of who we are, and our strategy for partnering and supporting HFA
May God continue to bless you all in your service for Him
On behalf of the Trustees of FHAM - Gaius Douglas (Director/Trustee) |
| Our aim is to partner and support the charitable work undertaken by Hope For Africa Missions in: South Africa, Mozambique, Malawi, Zimbabwe, Swaziland and Lesotho. |

 WOW!! LETTUCES |
What has happened so far......
- The vision for the formation of FHAM as a charity specifically for supporting HfA in 2003, was finally realised in August 2004, with the formation of FHAM as a Company Limited by Guarantee and in December 2004 receiving Charitable status.
- We have in place a ‘strategic policy’ document and business plan.
- Established a working relationship with WorldShare(another supporter of HfA).
- Created a link with Reading3000, (who as a charitable group operated under the auspices of WorldShare). From July 2006 they now operate under the auspices of FHAM. Some projects initiated by them — Sunflower Competitions in 2005 and 2006 and Christmas Gifts Appeal in 2005.
- In May 2005 the founder and director of HfA, Hendrick Mahlangu was invited to visit the UK to meet with FHAM trustees and together we began the process of establishing a working relationship.
- In 2005, a group of 15 volunteers organised by Reading3000 went out to Mozambique to assist in a variety of HfA projects; making bricks, house building, sewing classes and providing skills training to a number of Mozambicans.
- In 2005 a group of 13 volunteers from St Laurence’s (a church in Reading), led by Tom Evans went to Malawi to assist in the building of a community centre.
- In 2005, we launched our first appeal for Zimbabwe and received donations of £880.00. This has given us some insight for future appeals.
- Many friends have visited HfA, giving their personal support to different projects. A donation of a Route Master London Bus was made last year, driven all the way to South Africa. A Land Rover full of medical supplies was driven down to the mission, gifts of other vehicles and supplies have been made.
- Joint appraisal work between Edward Ndebele of HfA and David Staunton of FHAM in identifying, suitable areas for establishing mission sites in Lesotho and Swaziland and scoping of projects. This was the first ‘joint venture operation’ between the two organisations, operating under new working procedures for establishing projects, with a very successful outcome.
- David Staunton has expressed the desire to establish a Lesotho Support Group for supporting the work in Lesotho. (David is now living and working in London)
- Tom Evans has expressed a desire to work with FHAM in establishing a Malawi Support Group.
- Work on raising awareness continues, two leaflets about the work of FHAM and the work of HfA are now available and our website www.fham.co.uk which is now live.
- Establishing, developing and maintaining our finance and administration systems, assisting HfA in the development of their own systems which will be capable of maintaining and providing information on how gifts donated are used. This will enable us to provide you, our friends, with better information about the projects you are supporting.
- Many people have received and continue to receive practical and spiritual support. Many have come to know and trust the Lord Jesus Christ as their Saviour and Lord.
- The work continues…………

Finance & Administration Matters
In our first year of operating (2005), total donations and gifts received for specific projects or for individuals connected with HfA amounted to £32.028.00. Total amount transferred by 31st December 2005 was £29,805.00; the balance was transferred in the following year.
One of our objectives is to transfer 100% of any specific donations or gifts received. Administration costs, bank transfer costs and other costs associated with the running of the charity are funded by the gifts received specifically for that purpose.

Prayer Matters!
Prayer is one of the most important aspects of this work. God’s word tells us to ‘pray without ceasing’. (1Thessalonians 5:17)
- For the raising up and development of the support groups for Malawi, Zimbabwe, Lesotho and Swaziland.
- For Hendrick Mahlangu and the HfA Missions Board.
- For the ongoing work being done by HfA in the various countries.
- For the trustees of FHAM
- For the raising up of 5,000 donors and £695,000 to support the projects outlined in FHAM’s Strategic Plan for supporting HfA over the next 5 years.
David Enwright our Prayer Secretary is responsible for co-ordinating our prayer support and sending out prayer letters.
If you would like to become a member of our ’prayer support group’, please contact him at prayer@fham.co.uk
