Principles and Practices for Overseas Visits - HfA welcomes the support of those who feel called to share in the work of the mission by making contributions at various levels.
- Friends of Hope for Africa Missions (FHAM) will coordinate potential visits and its representative will liaise with HfA in respect of recruitment.
- In principle those who offer to help with the work must be in sympathy with the Christian beliefs of the mission and its development aims
- Visitors are responsible for their own financial costs of travel to and from the mission field, the costs of their food, travel and health insurance and any other expenses incurred while serving with the mission. Visitors should arrange their own comprehensive medical insurance.
- All visitors are responsible to the mission director and or his or her appointed field director or representative.
- The mission director of HfA and the local mission board must approve visitors’ ideas for projects to help the work of the mission in the first instance.
- During visits, any offers of financial or other support, ongoing or one off, should be made via the mission staff and not direct to an individual, although it is acceptable to give small personal items as gifts directly.
- Visitors should be mindful at all times of the delicate nature of the relationships in the mission setting and avoid causing, or contributing to, potential conflict by words or actions. Visitors are guests of the mission.
- Smoking and drinking of alcohol are prohibited whilst working for the mission.
- Visitors should familiarise themselves with the contents of the HFA document “Information for visitors to mission projects in South Africa and Mozambique”.
